Polk Street Permanent Closure as Part of Convention District Transformation Project

The Houston First Corporation has submitted an official request to permanently close a portion of Polk Street between Chartres and Avenida De Las Americas near the George R. Brown Convention Center. This closure is part of the Convention District Transformation Project, which includes expanding the convention center on the blocks where Polk Street stretches. The closure is necessary to maintain the continuity of the convention center building and meet the current and future needs of meetings and events. The project is coordinated with the Texas Department of Transportation's North Houston Highway Improvement Project (NHHIP).
