Description
Description | POLYGLOT – The European Song Exchange Incubator Music breaks barriers, words can deepen understanding. Polyglot - The European Song Exchange Incubator aims to break the linguistic barrier isolating artists and audiences. Polyglot is a collaborative project of artistic and linguistic exchange across European countries. Still dominated by the English language, the European music industry puts non-English speaking performers at a disadvantage. Excellent artists remain unknown to wider audiences, captive of small national markets merely because of their spoken language. The Polyglot project aims to launch an initiative through which the songs of countries represented in the partnership could appear mutually in other languages and thus come to life independently in different linguistic environments. Apart from overcoming the limitations of national markets, the project aims to strengthen the emotive and identity-marking potential inherent in music through audience outreach, nurture transnational ties, and promote a network of European music artists. A shared repertoire, shared lyrics and artistic exchange form the backbone of Polyglot, a model that can later serve as the basis of song translation activities involving all member states. The main activity of the project is not only about collaboration between artists: with the involvement of European collective management organisations, record labels, radio stations, sync libraries, and digital music platforms, we are developing new capacities that lay the legal and business foundations for international music collaborations in the long term. For better scoping throughout the project’s lifecycle, smaller as well as larger music markets and different language families are represented in the partnership: Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Spain (Catalonia), Ukraine. |
