Ponnani Port Shipyard Project in Kerala

The project involves the development of a modern shipbuilding yard at Ponnani Port in Kerala under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Planned over approximately 29 acres, the project will be implemented in two phases, beginning with facilities for constructing and repairing small vessels and later expanding into a full-fledged shipyard capable of building larger ships. The development also includes supporting infrastructure such as workshops, dry-docking and fabrication facilities, a shipbuilding training institute, and associated utilities. In addition, cargo-handling infrastructure is planned to enhance the port's commercial operations. With an estimated total investment of around ₹1,000 crore (US$106 million), the project aims to strengthen Kerala's shipbuilding industry, generate significant employment, and boost maritime and industrial activities in the Malabar region.
