Poplar Island Cell 6 and Cell 11 Dike Raisings

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking bidders to carry out Poplar Island Cell 6 and Cell 11 dike raisings. Poplar Island is an ecosystem restoration project located in the upper-middle Chesapeake Bay in Talbot County. The overall scope of this project is to use roughly 300,000 cu yd of stockpiled sand to raise two existing containment cell dikes on the island. The 14,000-ft-long Cell 6 dike will be raised from an elevation of +25 ft to +30 ft. The work will be completed by manually hauling sand from an on-site sand stockpile located in adjacent Cell 4. The secondary purpose of this contract is to use remaining sand in the Cell 4 stockpile to raise a 15,000-ft-long portion of the Cell 11 sand bench by approximately 3-5 ft.
