Port Coquitlam Transit Centre Upgrade Project

The project will implement improvements to the Port Coquitlam Transit Centre (PTC), which serves bus routes in eastern Metro Vancouver, to rehabilitate the facility to bring it to a State of Good Repair as well as to increase its capacity to operate and maintain a larger fleet of buses, including double decker buses, in accordance with the Metro Vancouver Mayors’ Vision. The scope of the PTC Facility Improvement project includes: • Expansion of the existing PTC facility to include a new parts storage space with a second-floor area for operator training and administration, and new operational offices on the first floor; • Repurposing other spaces within the existing facility to add new functionality, including converting the old parts storage space into a new service area for double decker buses (as well as 40’ and 60’ buses) with two bays, overhead cranes, and platforms; converting the old paint booth into a shuttle bay that can service two vehicles and a tire bay; and adding two new platform bays for standard buses (and future battery electric buses); • Demolition of the existing open-air bus washer and construction of a new enclosed cleaning bay and crew building for cleaning and service personnel to meet current needs and accommodate future fleet expansion; • Addition of fueling infrastructure for unleaded gasoline on site to service shuttle buses; • Implementation of changes to the parking layout to accommodate more buses; and • Updating electrical and mechanical equipment to address state of good repair, meet needs of expansion, and provide infrastructure for future battery electric bus charging stations. (Note: Installation of charging stations are outside of the scope of the PTC project.) The project is currently in design phase (out of scope). ICIP scope begins in July 2022, with construction scheduled to begin in February 2023. Substantial completion is currently planned for January 2026, with close-out by June 2026.
