Port Newark Container Terminal Expansion

Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) is undertaking a $1 billion expansion plan to add a new berth and increase rail capacity to support its main customer, Mediterranean Shipping Co. The project includes the delivery of new diesel-electric hybrid straddle carriers, a new maintenance shop, and the addition of 68 acres of terminal space. The expansion aims to increase container volumes by 40% over the next three years and add a fourth berth to handle larger ships simultaneously. An on-dock rail yard will also be added to improve container movement to railcars.
