Description
Description | The Port of Callao Project for Peru will assist in financing the importation of equipment and facilities needed to improve the efficiency of the Port of Callao. The Port of Callao, located about five miles west of the capital city, Lima, is the principal port of Peru. It handles about 27 percent of the nation's water born foreign trade and 30 percent of its coastal commerce. Currently, the turnaround time for ships entering the port is extremely long. The delays stem from the congestion of cargo on the pier and in storage and the lack of adequate cargo handling equipment. The project will help to alleviate this problem by: 1) procuring general cargo handling equipment from abroad and 2) importing and erecting bulk grain discharging and storage facilities. These additions will allow the Port of Callao to berth more ships and handle more general cargo. |
