Port of Churchill Expansion Project

The project involves expanding the Port of Churchill as part of a trade corridor through northern Manitoba, with a focus on enabling liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping out of Churchill by 2030. The federal government has set a goal to increase LNG production to 50 million tonnes per year by 2030 and is working with provincial, territorial, and Indigenous partners. The project was shortlisted as a transformative project requiring major improvements to rail, port, and other infrastructure. The federal government has set an aggressive timeline to get LNG flowing out of Churchill within the next four years, with an ultimatum that the project must move forward within this timeline or federal support could be withdrawn.
