Per capita availability of water in India has gone down from 6,042 cubic m in 1947 to about 1,545 cubic m in 2011. As per the international norms if per capita availability is below 1700 cubic m it is water stressed. By 2050, Indias increasing population and water scarcity will reach alarming proportions. Over 330 million people in 13 States suffer from water shortage. Till the interlinking of river plan is implemented and successful in India, efficient management of farm water is essential. The World Bank has started multiple projects in India for efficient use of farm water. This project aims at promoting entrepreneurship of rural youth and ladies in self help group [SHG] through vertical farming in portable greenhouses, and using a hygroscopic matrix in root zone as Root Moisturizer to retain natural moisture absorbing from air and by preventing rapid evapotranspiration.
