Description | Consorcio Porto Estrela was awarded the contract to build and operate the power plant in Jul. 1997, but construction works started in Apr. 2000. Commercial operation should start in the second half of 2001. The project company ownership is equally divided among the three partners: CVRD, Coteminas, and the partially privatized state electricity utility, Cemig. The 112-MW hydro power plant will require an investment of US$ 59 million, and the sponsors will operate the facility for a 35-year period (there is the possibility of contract extensions). |
