Description

Description

Foz do Brasil, a subsidiary of the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, was awarded the 30-year concession contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the water and sewerage facilities of the city of Porto Ferreira (state of Sao Paulo) in June 2011. The contract was awarded by the municipality's central administration. The population of Porto Ferreira was estimated at 54,000. Foz do Brasil was awarded the contract by offering the highest payment to the government (US$ 3.2 million or BRL 5.2 million), but the other competitor, the Brazilian company Equipav, questioned in court the result of the bidding process. By August 2011, the process was cleared and Foz do Brasil took over the operation of the water and sewerage services in October 2011. The private sponsor, which created the company Foz do Brasil – Unidade de Porto Ferreira to manage the project, committed to invest US$ 20.1 million over the life of the project.
