Description | Further expansions to the Tyne and Wear Metro network and local railways are being considered by the Northeast Combined Authority. These include the restoration of the entire Leamside Line from Pelaw in Gateshead to Tursdale in County Durham, new stations in communities such as Shincliffe, Belmont, West Rainton, Fencehouses, Penshaw, Belford, North Tyneside, central Gateshead, and the Quays, as well as a possible new tram network in West Newcastle. An hourly rail service between Newcastle and Berwick on the East Coast Main Line and extensions to the Northumberland Line are also proposed. |
