Description

Description

The Central Electricity Board Project consists of the second stage of the Cameron Highlands hydroelectric scheme (known as the Batang Padang Scheme), the first stage of the Prai Thermal Power Station, and the expansion of transmission facilities. The Batang Padang Scheme will have an initial installed capacity of 102.8 MW, and an ultimate installed capacity of 154.2 MW. The Prai Thermal Power Station will have an initial installed capacity of 60 MW, but it will be designed for an ultimate installed capacity of 270 MW. The expansion of transmission facilities will provide for the interconnection of all major generating stations on the western side of Malaya and for the expansion of transmission systems in northwestern and southwestern areas. The project is technically sound, the estimated cost is reasonable, construction schedules are realistic, and arrangements for construction are satisfactory. The generating capacity provided by the project is necessary to meet the expected demand for power in the interconnected service area. The installations will be the most economical means of meeting this demand. The interconnection will result in the more efficient utilization of the area's generating facilities.
