Description
Description | The Burkina Faso Power Sector Development Project aims to 1) enhance the policy and institutional environment for efficient sector development and operation; 2) improve the availability and reliability of electricity supply in the area covered by the national power utility SONABEL; and 3) promote rational and efficient use of energy in public administration buildings through demand-side management initiatives. There are four project components: Component 1 supports the capacity building activities of the National Directorate of Energy (DGE) in planning, policy formulation and monitoring and evaluation. This component will also support capacity enhancement of the power utility, SONABEL, in procurement and project management. Finally, it finances the second phase of the institutional study for the electricity and hydrocarbon sub-sectors. Component 2 finances the construction of the Bobo Dioulasso-Ouagadougou transmission line; and the reinforcement of the existing transmission lines connecting Bagre, Kompienga, and Ouagadougou. Component 3 finances the construction of a turnkey 14 MW diesel power station; and the construction supervision. Component 4 finances 1) the strengthening of the institutional framework to support demand-side management and energy efficiency initiatives; (2) investment mainly in equipment (air-conditioning and lighting systems); and (3) information, education and communication to promote rational and efficient use of electricity. |
