Description
Description | The financing of the FC measure Electricity supply for host communities and Syrian refugees II (BMZ No. 2016 40 705) is planned as a grant of EUR 44 million from the special initiative Combating the causes of flight - reintegrating refugees (VE 2016) in an expedited procedure according to point 47 of the FC/TC guideline. The main component of the project is the construction of a photovoltaic system of around 25-35 MW to generate electricity for selected supply facilities in Jordan in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. By saving around EUR 10-12 million in electricity costs in the first year of operation alone, hospitals, water suppliers and UNHCR, for example, gain urgently needed financial leeway to improve the living conditions of all population groups - equally for the local population and for Syrian refugees. The project can therefore complete the approach of the previous phase, Electricity Supply Host Communities and Syrian Refugees, Zaatari Camp (2015 40 665), and add a clear focus to communities affected by the flow of refugees (host communities). By providing tangible benefits for the people in the host communities, the project helps to reduce the potential for conflict in these communities. An accompanying communication campaign is intended to highlight the joint added value of the project for refugees and the local population, thus further promoting integration and coexistence. |
