Description

Description

The Power to the People project aims to develop a community solar "garden" at Pambula using flywheel technology for energy storage instead of lithium batteries. The project harnesses rooftop solar energy to power flywheels, which store kinetic energy and keep spinning to provide power during grid malfunctions or outages. The energy generated will be sold into the grid at optimal times, and the revenue will subsidize electricity bills for vulnerable residents in Bega Valley. The project is a collaboration between Social Justice Advocates of the South Coast, Pyramid Power, and the Sapphire Coast Historic Vehicle Club, with plans to install solar panels on shed roofs and land provided by the vehicle club. Stage one includes a 40kW solar array, expanding to a 150kW system once all panels are installed. The system is expected to generate around $75,000 annually.
