Description

Description

The Ethiopian Electric Light and Power Authority Project for Ethiopia will provide a loan of $23.5 million to the Ethiopian Electric Light and Power Authority (EELPA) to complete its power expansion program. The EELPA, a statutory corporation of the Imperial Ethiopian Government, is responsible for all public electricity supplies in Ethiopia. The project will increase generating capacity and expand transmission and distribution facilities in order to meet expected demands for power in the interconnected and self contained service system areas. Its components are: 1) completion of stages two and three of the Awash river hydroelectric development, each with an installed capacity of 32 MW; 2) expansion of the transmission and distribution facilities of the main EELPA interconnected system; and 3) provision of 5.8 MW of diesel generating plant and expansion of distribution facilities in 18 self contained systems. These improvements will increase the power supply in order to meet new demands.
