Description | The Granpass Thermal Power Project in Ceylon's objective is to assist in the expansion of the power system operated by the Department of Government Electric Undertakings (DGEU). It will meet the prospective demand for power in the area served by the DGEU. The project consists of the Granpass 25 MW thermal plant, the extensions to the transmission system, and the expansion of the distribution system in Colombo. It forms part of the program known as Aberdeen-Laksapana. Although the estimated capital cost and cost of operation of the thermal plant is high, it will provide a satisfactory solution to the immediate problem of capacity shortage in the system. |
