The Thermal and Power Distribution Power Projects for Nicaragua will assist in financing the construction of a new thermal power plant, the installation of new transmission lines to serve fifteen communities, and the expansion of the distribution systems in Managua and the communities to be served by the transmission lines. The demand for electricity has increased greatly in Nicaragua. In order to satisfy this demand, more power must be generated. The project will accomplish this goal by: 1) constructing a 30,000 kw steam power plant in Managua with oil storage facilities and a cooling water supply; 2) constructing a transmission system serving about fifteen communities north and south of Managua consisting of 110 miles (176 km) of 69 kv and 57 miles (91 km) of 13.2 transmission lines with necessary substations; 3) installing necessary equipment in the Empresa's plant in Managua and existing diesel plants; and 4) expanding the distribution systems in Managua and the communities to be served by the transmission system. These improvements will increase the power supply in order to meet consumer demand in Nicaragua.
