PPN Power Generating Company was established to build and operate a 330-MW naphtha and gas power plant in Pillaiperumalnallur, Tamil Nadu. PPN Power Generating Company was promoted by local partner Apollo Infrastructure Projects Finance Company, which held a 28 percent equity stake. The project’s other equity partners were Marubeni, the equipment supplier (26 percent), El Paso Energy (26 percent) and PSEG Global Inc(20 percent). In the first quarter of 2005, Apollo Infrastructure Projects Finance Company increased its stake in PPN to 54% after it purchased El Paso Energy's 26% shareholding. The project, whose total cost was US$328 million, reached financial closure in the fourth quarter of 1998. The company commenced commercial operations in April 2001 and will sell its electricity output to Tamil Nadu State Electricity Board under a 20 year purchasing power agreement.. The project was the first in the Tamil Nadu State with escrow coverage that back stop payments by the board. None None
