Description

Description

The overall purpose of the Eurostat/OECD Purchasing Power Parities (PPP) Program is to provide users with high quality PPPs and related economic indicators. Eurostat is in charge of the annual calculation and dissemination of Purchasing Power Parities (PPPs) for 36 European countries in line with Regulation (EC) no 1445/2007. These include the 27 EU Member States, 3 EFTA Member States (Iceland, Norway and Switzerland), 5 EU candidate countries (Albania, The Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey), and 1 potential candidate (Bosnia and Herzegovina). PPPs are used to generate the price and volume indices needed for economic research and policy analysis that involves inter-country comparisons of GDP and GDP expenditures. PPPs are also used to determine the eligibility of EU regions to the Structural Funds. The action aims at ensuring the provision of high quality and comparable input data for the purpose of calculating Purchasing Power Parities. The production of PPPs for the EU is a multilateral exercise involving the National Statistical Institutes of the participating countries and Eurostat. By executing this action, the CSO makes an essential contribution to this exercise.
