Description | The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and PTT Public Company Limited plan to jointly study a project for the development of a floating storage re-gasification unit (FSRU) in the Gulf of Thailand. The FSRU will primarily supply gas to a new EGAT-operated power plant in the Phunphin district of Surat Thani. The EGAT-PTT study follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two agencies in May 2020 on joint business growth in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply chain. The plan aims to alleviate the strain on southern Thailand’s restricted electricity supply. The FSRU is planned to transport 5 million tonnes of imported LNG per year and is in line with the Thailand’s 2018 National Power Development Plan. |
