Description
Description | Project Outcomes and Objectives: The proposed project involves two components: site remediation of the Durham Region Transit (DRT) Raleigh property post construction of the new maintenance facility that was completed in mid-2017; and replacement of overhead doors at the indoor bus storage facilities at the 710 Raleigh facility. The remediation of the property would involve demolition of the existing maintenance facility, excavation and disposal of buried infrastructure (underground storage tanks, oil/water separators, hoists, and fuel dispensing equipment) and limited removal of impacted soil. In addition, free product recovery work will be done using the Dual Phase Extraction (DPE) to reduce concentrations of contamination remaining in soil and groundwater. This alternative approach to addressing soil contamination comes at a reduced cost compared to the originally proposed approach which involved significantly greater excavation/removal/backfill work. Replacement of the overhead doors is meant to address the deteriorating state of the doors. Project Readiness: The Region has completed background site Investigations over the last few years to ascertain the level and nature of remediation that may be necessary, post completion of the new maintenance facilily on-site. A business case has also been completed for replacement of the legacy overhead doors How the Project Fits with Strategic plan: The proposed project advances best practices and the Region’s strategic goals of efficient environmental management and asset management. |
