Description

Description

Core problem Comoé National Park is the largest national park in West Africa, covering 11,500 km². The park has been severely affected by the country's ongoing political and military crisis. The infrastructure fell into disrepair, park surveillance could no longer be ensured at the required level, and fauna and flora were severely disturbed by human influences. At the same time, the living conditions of the people in the area around the park continue to lag behind the national average. Module objective The aim of the development cooperation measure (project objective) is to protect and sustainably preserve the park from destructive human influences in cooperation with the local population and other local and regional partners. Key outputs The park administration is supported in setting up and expanding the infrastructure required for park surveillance, acquiring the necessary equipment, and developing participatory protection and surveillance strategies. In addition, small projects in the park's peripheral zone are financed, and information and awareness-raising measures are carried out. In conjunction with the advisory measures of the technical cooperation and the long-term financing that the park receives as part of a debt conversion agreed in 2012 between the Federal Republic and Côte d'Ivoire via the Ivorian foundation Fondation pour les Parcs et Réserves en Côte d'Ivoire (FPRCI), important prerequisites for the long-term preservation and sustainable management of the park are created. Target group Is the local population in the area surrounding the park, whose living conditions are improved and who are thus motivated to make their contribution to the preservation of the park. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 As part of the BMZ 2030 process, the project was assigned to the core topic of protecting our livelihoods - the environment and natural resources and within this the field of action of biodiversity.
