Description
Description | The loss of nature and biodiversity is a global challenge and robs many people of their livelihoods. The establishment and long-term preservation of local protected areas is an important measure to create space for the preservation of nature and natural resources. The project supports this endeavor through long-term financing of the two national parks Taï and Comoé, which have been declared World Heritage sites by UNESCO and are considered a valuable global public good due to their unique biodiversity. The aim is to ensure effective park management of the Ivorian protected areas by the Office Ivoirien des Parcs et Réserves (OIPR). To this end, the project funds will be paid into the foundation capital of the Fondation des Parcs et Réserves Ivoriens (FPRCI) nature conservation foundation. The capital assets of the FPRCI will be used to generate income. While the foundation assets are retained in the long term, the return generated can be used to cover the operating costs of the national parks. This ensures the financial sustainability of the national parks. The project's partner is the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, represented by the Ministry of Finance, and the project sponsor is the FPRCI nature conservation foundation. The final beneficiary of the project is the OIPR park administration, which carries out the local management of protected areas in the national parks. |
