Description

Description

In November 2014, Consorcio Aeroporto Zona da Mata, a joint-venture of the Brazilian companies Socicam and Universal Armazens Gerais Alfandegados, was awarded in a competitive bidding process the contract to expand and operate the airport located at the city of Goiana (state of Minas Gerais). Besides Consorcio Aeroporto Zona da Mata, only the Brazilian company Multiterminais took part in the contest. The bidding criteria set by the regulatory agency was the required contribution from the government. Consorcio Aeroporto Zona da Mata presented the lowest offer, 32% below the minimum set by the regulatory agency. The payments were set to be made in annual installments over the life of the contract. A special purpose company named Concessionaria do Aeroporto da Zona da Mata S.A. was created to manage the project. The 30-year contract was signed with the regulatory agency in December 2014, and the private sponsors commenced the operations of the facilities early in 2015. The project envisaged the rehabilitation of the existing terminals and the expansion of the runway. The total investment in the project was estimated at US$ 80.4 million (BRL 188.9 million).
