Description
Description | "In response to this Call, ERA presents a project which consists of two seminars to take place in Lisbon in October 2022 and, one year later, in Bucharest in October 2023. Seminar 1 will focus on modern techniques to prevent fraud, while seminar 2 will focus on how intelligence can lead to preventive actions, improve detection and make investigations more efficient and effective in combating fraud affecting the EU financial interests. Both seminars will aim at offering a “special toolkit” of the newest and most effective investigation anti-fraud techniques. The overall aim of both events is to exchange ideas on preventing fraud affecting the EU financial interests from a practical perspective. A key feature of the events is to bring together a wide range of experts: FIU representatives, private sector experts, judges, prosecutors, national experts and academics. By participating to the seminars EU legal practitioners will be provided with the ""key skills"" necessary to cope with new forms of fraud (especially those with a strong tech/internet component). Each seminar will last 1.5 days, which gives enough time to cover the sessions envisaged and it is cost-effective as participants will be able to depart on the second day. Target audience: Judges, prosecutors, government officials, lawyers in private practice and other stakeholders. The conference will be attended by the presidents and members of the national associations for the protection of the financial interests of the European Union. Modules of the seminars (broadly identified) will be: Fraudsters’ new modus operandi (impact of Covid on criminal activities), digital tech as tool to commit fraud, online investigation methods to detect fraud: cyber patrolling, cyber investigations, effective use of Internet open source intelligence, data protection issue and defence rights, tackling fraud on the darkweb.
