“Prevention in Action” – Prevention and health promotion of NCDs - Cardiovascular diseases and diabetes at an individual and societal level.

Led by the Portuguese Red Cross (PRC), Spanish Red Cross (CRE), Italian Red Cross (CRI), Slovenian Red Cross (SRC) and Hungarian Red Cross (HRC), PIA consists of a primary prevention project for the reduction of NCDs, in support of policies developed by the Member States, in a coordinated and wide-ranging action for the prevention of NCDs - cardiovascular diseases and diabetes at the individual and social level. The PIA Project has the following general objectives: 1) Prevention of sudden death related to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and lifestyle risk factors, by reducing the burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD´s) and related risk factor, both in individual and societal level, namely by supporting the NCDs policies and corresponding action led by the Member states, by increasing awareness, sharing knowledge and building capacity to improve public health, through the implementation of training and raising awareness activities in the educational community; and 2) Reducing health inequalities and promoting diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention in vulnerable people, including displaced people from Ukraine, by developing health literacy and communication material on prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases and providing screenings and health promotion activities. PIA aims to develop activities for the educational community and activities for vulnerable people, including displaced people from Ukraine. The project contributes to improving the health conditions of the target population, through identifying health conditions early, providing reliable information on how to prevent NCDs, offering effective and evidence-based interventions that can be implemented in a sustainable way.
