Description

Description

Project “Pride against Prejudice: Literature as a Means of Women’s Empowerment” gathers 9 books written by female authors. It is a continuation of giving the professional recognition to women in all aspects of literary industry (writers, translators, editors, managers, designers, etc. involved in this project are all women) and at the same time encouraging the values of gender equality by promoting the works of female authors. Considering the specific geopolitical context of the war in Ukraine, the special focus is given to the Ukrainian authors. The main task of this project is to deliver high quality translation, publication, promotion and dissemination of the following critically acclaimed and prestigious award-winning works: Fugitive parce que reine by French author Violaine Huisman; Lessico famigliare by Italian author and activist Natalia Ginzburg; Rede by German author and poet Kerstin Preiwuss; Paisums by Latvian writer Inga Ābele; Paw Krolowej by Polish writter Dorota Maslowska; Kärlekens Antarktis by Sara Stridsberg; and Mine menn by Norwegian feminist author Victoria Kielland. Project also includes 2 books by some of the most important Ukrainian authors: Мадонна перехресть, a poetry collection by Ліна Василівна Костенк and Сестро, Сестро, a collection of short stories by Окса́на Забу́жко. These books will be printed as bilingual editions and two whole print runs will be donated to the organizations helping Ukrainian refugees in Serbia in cooperation with Ukrainian ambassy. While the situation in regards to the representation of women in literature in Serbia is getting better, there is a lot more to be done. This project is expected to further support transnational cooperation between women actors in the industry by providing them the necessary infrastructure, to continue with introducing strong female voices to Serbian literary public and to have a huge impact on our readership in regards to the importance of gender equality in society.
