Description | The Prince County Innovation & Learning Centre in Summerside will support the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Family Medicine Residency program. A multifaceted satellite centre in Summerside, adjacent to Prince County Hospital, would complement and support the programs developed for UPEI medical school residents. Residents in these programs would gain experience working in a smaller, community-focused setting, which can improve their skills in delivering personalized care. Additionally, the presence of medical residents could help alleviate the burden on local healthcare professionals, enhance the quality of care, and foster a more robust healthcare system in the region. As residents often stay in the area where they train, this could also contribute to long-term retention of medical professionals in PEI, benefiting the community with consistent and dedicated healthcare services.
