Description

Description

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) plans to replace the deteriorating 115-foot-long Prince Rodgers Avenue Bridge over Interstate 287 in Bridgewater, built in 1963. The project includes replacing the deck to improve structural deficiencies and ensure long-term safety, repairing the superstructure and substructure to address deterioration and extend service life, relocating the bridge-mounted sign structure, and replacing it with two overhead sign structures along I-287 North. Two construction options are proposed: complete closure for 13 months or a two-stage construction allowing pedestrian traffic for 18 months. A third option to maintain one lane of vehicular and pedestrian traffic with alternating lights was suggested. Construction is anticipated to begin in winter 2026-27.
