The program aims to improve the diagnosis and treatment of the various forms of tuberculosis in accordance with the DOTS strategy (Directly Observed Treatment Short Course) recommended by the WHO (program objective). This is intended to contribute to achieving the overarching development policy goal, Millennium Development Goal No. 6, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. The FC measure consists of two components: rehabilitation and equipment of the Sugd Oblast TB Hospital Digmoj and accompanying training and advisory measures in the areas of setting up the laboratory network, hospital operations, maintenance management and personnel development. In addition, the program will provide additional equipment for the National TB Hospital Macheton. The target group of the program is the entire population of Tajikistan (around 7 million), but above all the inhabitants of the Sugd Oblast (2.3 million). Since the risk of contracting tuberculosis depends to a large extent on the social living conditions, we assume that the poor will benefit most from this program. The total cost of the project is EUR 8.2 million, of which EUR 6.9 million will be financed by FC funds (EUR 6.5 million - investment and EUR 0.4 million - accompanying measure), EUR 0.8 million by Tajik own funds and EUR 0.5 million by GFATM.
