Description

Description

In May 2011, the government of Kosovo awarded a 20-year concession contract to Limak-Aeroport de Lyon consortium to modernize the Pristina airport, build a new terminal and operate. In 2010, Pristina airport, Kosovo’s sole airport, was opened in 1965 when Kosovo was a province of the Socialist Yugoslav federation. It was managed by Serbs until NATO took over the operations. The airport made an annual profit of about 14 million dollars and handled some 1.2 million passengers each year. Limak-Aeroport de Lyon consortium won the concession via a competitive tender by offering to pay the government 39.43% of the airport's gross revenues in the form of annual concession fee. Limak group holds 90% of the consortium's shares while the remaining 10% was owned by Aeroports de Lyon. Two other consortia participated in the tender: the German- Turkish group Fraport-ICTAS and an international consortium, Bouygues-Batimes-Egis-PAIC. Limak-Aeroport de Lyon consortium also agree to invest Euro100 million (US$127 million) in airport modernization and expansion of the life of the concession contract. The Limak Kosovo International Airport JSC Consortium agreed build a new terminal over a 27,000 m2 area, a new apron over a 77,000 m2 area, a control tower, ground handling facilities, fuel storages and parking lots and connecting roads. The government of Kosovo signed the 20-year concession contract with Limak-Aeroport de Lyon in August 2010. A new airport terminal building was opened in 2013. Over US$190 million had been invested in the project up until then (140 million euros). The airport's annual capacity had now increased to 2 to 5 million passengers. 2013 investment numbers: in total, US$190 million invested. Minus 2011 (127) is 63.
