Description
Description | Private Sector Development and Vocational Education and Training in the South CaucasusProject descriptionTitle: Priority area sustainable economic development: components for private sector development and vocational education and training in the South CaucasusCommissioned by: German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)Co-funded by: European Union (EU)Country: Armenia, Azerbaijan, GeorgiaLead executing agencies: Ministry of Economy (MoE) in Armenia; Ministry of Economy, (MoE) in Azerbaijan; Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, (MoESD) in GeorgiaOverall term: 2017 to 2024ContextThe three countries of the South Caucasus — Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia — face the challenge of combating poverty and promoting employment. These countries therefore require economic growth that benefits the entire population.Raising the economy's competitiveness requires a well qualified skilled workforce, particularly in industry sectors with the greatest employment potential such as tourism, wine-growing, transport and logistics, construction, agriculture, clothing and IT. However, the current vocational education and training often does not take into account the needs of the labour market. There is a particular lack of private sector involvement and practical training.ObjectiveSectors with a high employment potential are experiencing long-term economic development.ApproachThe programme fosters employment with an integrated approach. It promotes supply and demand on the labour market in order to improve the basis for jobs. To achieve this, it strengthens the involvement of the private sector in vocational education and training and also increases the competitiveness of industry sectors with a high employment potential. The programme covers the following areas:Private Sector Promotion: it promotes economic development institutions, clusters, selected companies and government institutions to improve the competitiveness of relevant sectors and develop sustainable business models.Vocational education and training: it analyses the requirements on education and training and supports suitable education providers. The main focus is on quality management, cooperation with the private sector and the development of dual system training courses.Regional and international sharing of experience: the implementing partners in the region learn from each other and establish links via exchange platforms for different topics.Last update: Januar 2022 |
