Description
Description | Côte d'Ivoire is one of the economically strongest countries in the West African region. However, Côte d'Ivoire's health data do not reflect its level of economic development. Despite great progress, the country has a very high maternal mortality rate (385/100,000 live births, Sustainable Development Goal 3.1 70/100,000 live births), with complications surrounding childbirth contributing a very high proportion (80%). In the 2021-2025 Health Development Plan, the government has committed to gradually increasing spending on health from the current 5% of the total budget to 15%. The prevalence rate for modern contraceptives is to rise from the current 21% to 40.5% by 2025, and the unmet need for family planning is to be reduced from 21.5% to 13.3% over the same period. The aim of the project is to build on the successes achieved in improving sexual and reproductive health. At the same time, the project aims to strengthen women's rights and autonomy, including self-determined family planning. This is to be achieved by 1) increasing demand through education and sensitization among the population, 2) improving the availability of modern contraceptives, 3) increasing access to family planning services and 4) advocating for better involvement of the private sector in family planning. To achieve these goals, communication for social and behavioral change, social marketing and social franchising are used and supported by advocacy activities. This is expected to achieve around 1 million years of couples' contraception every year. The partner is the national program for maternal and child health. The activities are mainly implemented by three NGOs with private health providers (40% of Ivorian health services). The project's target group is people between 15 and 49 years of age, especially young girls and women between 15 and 24 years of age. |
