The FC project Pro-Hydro is financing a hybrid solar plant in Mbuji-Mayi to provide sustainable energy for REGIDESO's water infrastructure. With over two million inhabitants, Mbuji Mayi is the largest and most important centre of the EZ water programme PROSECO, where investments are already being made in REGIDESO's water supply infrastructure. The approach chosen provides for the full capital financing of a hybrid, solar-based self-generated power plant for electricity generation and distribution. The high energy costs for water production cause high water tariffs, which represent a major financial burden for the population. The development of the local economy and population is also hampered by the lack of access to a reliable, inexpensive and clean energy supply. The aim of the project is to provide REGIDESO with a more cost-effective and reliable energy supply in order to significantly reduce water tariffs and to increase the local population and economy's access to a modern energy supply. The project thus contributes to people's economic and social living conditions and to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The total cost of the hybrid solar power plant is expected to be EUR 17 million, which will be largely financed from the FC contribution.
