Description

Description

In 2000, the presidents of the Central African Republic (CAR), Cameroon and the Republic of Congo created the TNS (Trinational de la Sangha) cross-border protected area complex. The protected area consists of three parks - Dzanga-Sangha (APDS) in the CAR, Nouabale Ndoki (PNNN) in the Republic of Congo and Lobeke (PNL) in Cameroon - each of which has its own national park management with a certain degree of management autonomy. A coordination mechanism was established for cross-border issues. In addition, an international foundation was established (FTNS), which is intended to ensure sustainable, project-independent financing of the protected area complex from the interest income from a trust fund. As part of the DC program Sustainable Forest Management in the Congo Basin, the FC module via the Environmental Foundation is intended to improve the conditions for efficient management of the PNL protected area and the cross-border measures and supplements the FC measure to support the other TNS protected areas and the TNS Foundation (BMZ No. 2010 67 206) as well as the capital contribution in favor of the PML (BMZ No. 2004 65 302). The goal is to ensure efficient management of the Lobeke protected area and the cross-border measures in the long term. The direct target group is the largely poor population in the peripheral zone of the national park, which comprises around 23,000 people. The project has an impact on the global goods biodiversity and climate, the preservation of which is in the global interest. The total cost of the supplementary measure amounts to around EUR 9.5 million, of which EUR 5.5 million will be financed from FC funds.
