The aim of the phase is: The management of the supported protected areas is both more effective and more participatory, and the living conditions of the affected population, particularly the indigenous population, which may be restricted by the protected areas, are improved. The target group is the predominantly poor rural population who live around and possibly in the protected areas of the protected areas supported by the module. ICCN employees in selected areas are also the target group of the module. The entire world population benefits indirectly from the project's contributions to preserving biodiversity and climate protection. The project is sponsored by the Congolese nature conservation authority Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature (ICCN). It is partly responsible for protected area management in co-management with selected international nature conservation organizations. The measures to be financed build on the successes of the previous phases of the project and essentially comprise two funding components (1) the improvement of a) participatory protected area management based on international human rights standards and b) the living conditions of the local population and (2) support for ICCN, particularly in the areas of environmental and social standards and human rights. The FC module includes a financial contribution of EUR 10 million. The duration of the project is 4 years and 4 months.
