PROGRAMME D'APPUI A L'AJUSTEMENT DU SECTEUR PRIVE

The Private Sector Adjustment Support Programme (PSASP) is designed because of Senegal's desire to pursuing reforms aimed at reducing internal and external imbalances. It aims to contribute to poverty reduction by creating a conducive environment for development of private initiative in a country where nearly 50.6% of the population lives below the poverty line. The PAASP program should support a range of ambitious reforms to improve the business climate and governance. To achieve these objectives, the programme earmarked 73 measures to be implemented under its five components, namely: (i) facilitation of private sector participation and strengthening of competitiveness (24 measures); (ii) continued fiscal and external trade facilitation (11 measures); (iii) continued reform of the groundnut sector (11 measures); (iv) continued reform of the postal and pensions sector (9 measures); and (v) Improvement of governance (18 measures). The support of the African Development Fund (ADF), under the project, should allow the implementation of the measures contained in two of the five components namely: (i) facilitating the participation of the private sector, and (ii) improving the governance.
