Description

Description

The cross-border protected area complex Tri-National de la Sangha (TNS) includes the Dzangha Sangha protected area (APDS) in the Central African Republic (CAR), the Nouabalé Ndoki National Park (PNNN) in the Republic of Congo and the Lobéké National Park (PNL) in the Republic of Cameroon and was founded in 2000 by the presidents of the participating countries. The environmental foundation Fondation pour le Tri-National de la Sangha (FTNS) has been tasked with contributing to the sustainable and project-independent financing of the protected area complex using capital gains from its fund. All three national parks of the TNS have their own park management and have received support for many years from the international non-governmental organizations World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), among others. As part of the development cooperation program Sustainable Forest Management in the Congo Basin, the project contributes to better protection and more sustainable use of forest resources in the Congo Basin (development cooperation program objective). The project envisages increasing the project implementation funds by a total of EUR 6.5 million, of which EUR 4.5 million is earmarked for financing investment measures in the protected areas, consultant support and the operation of the foundation. An amount of around EUR 2 million is to be used to continue and strengthen the One Health approach in the protected areas of the TNS. The Central African Forest Commission COMIFAC is the recipient of the budget funds and passes the financial contributions on as a grant to the project sponsor FTNS. The direct target group of the FC module are the mostly poor residents of the TNS, in whose peripheral areas around 33,500 people live. Due to the positive effects of the project on the global goods of biodiversity and climate, the target group is also the world population in a broader sense.
