The project envisages the reconstruction of educational infrastructure that was destroyed during the strong earthquake in November 2019. Module objective The aim of the project is to create a qualitatively improved and energy-efficient range of public educational infrastructure. The overarching development policy objective of the measure is to contribute to improving access to education for the growing population in Albania and to make a contribution to global climate protection and the sustainable development of Albania. Key outputs The EUR 11 million provided will probably be used to finance three schools and create additional interim solutions (e.g. school containers) to ensure school lessons during the construction phase. Target group The target group of the project are pupils and teachers from selected schools affected by the earthquake. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 - Primary contribution to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) - Important contributions to SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 5 (Gender Equity) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) The expected UPS risks are manageable (Category B). The risks associated with the construction of the educational facilities (in particular occupational safety, social risks) are easy to estimate and mitigate using standard methods. There is no evidence of risk-increasing factors (such as land acquisition or land rights issues) or impairment of the environment or certain groups of people.
