The project includes the construction of a grid-connected photovoltaic system with an installed capacity of 10 MWp near the city of Tozeur. The aim of the measure is the efficient, ecologically and socially acceptable generation of electrical energy and the establishment of power plant-sized PV technology in Tunisia. This will partially avoid climate-damaging CO2 emissions and the import of natural gas. As a reference project, the measure serves as a basis for the further expansion of photovoltaics in Tunisia. Overall, the measure supports Tunisia in implementing its solar plan and its goal of generating 30% of electricity from renewable energies by 2030, and thus in diversifying its electricity mix and increasing energy independence. The project also makes a contribution to ensuring or increasing the security of supply in the electricity sector. In addition to the Tunisian population, the Tunisian economy in particular also benefits from this. The project sponsor is the national energy supply company, the Société Tunisienne de l'Electricité et du Gaz (STEG).
