Description
Description | This project is for the construction of a new all-season road from Canyon Creek to Christina Creek that will be added to the Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) highway system, eventually forming part of the Mackenzie Valley Highway (MVH). This road would be open all year and would replace a section of the Mackenzie Valley Winter Road that is only open during winter resupply season and is dependent on cold weather. A planning study for this construction project is currently ongoing and makes use of Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program funding. Proposed work for the construction of the road includes: 1. Pit development 2. Crushing granular material 3. Right of Way clearing 4. New embankment construction 5. Culverts installation 6. Drainage improvements 7. Surfacing gravel 8. Bridge Improvements The project is intended to build capacity in the Sahtu Region to ensure residents can take full advantage of future construction of the MVH. Pre-construction work will be managed by GNWT’s own forces with consultant technical support. Construction activities will be procured through a negotiated contracting process and will be managed by GNWT staff. |
