Description | The Project 1124M ship series includes two variants, namely the Project 1124M1 fire support ship and Project 1124M2 Coast Guard ship. Anti-submarine ship United Shipbuilding 71.2m 10.3m 3.5m 2,500nmi Ten days Understand the impact of the Ukraine conflict from a cross-sector perspective with theGlobal Data Executive Briefing: Ukraine Conflict The Project 1124M anti-submarine warfare (ASW) ships, also referred to as the Grisha V-class corvettes, were built by United Shipbuilding, a Russian shipbuilder. Designed to enhance ASW operational capability of navies across the world, the ships are currently in service with the Russian Navy. In 2019, the Russian 1124M ASW ships, namely Snezhnogorsk, Brest and Yunga, took part in ASW drills in the Barents Seat as part of the Kola Flotilla all-arms strike force group of the Russian Northern Fleet. The vessel can be deployed in a range of naval operations, including maritime patrol, exclusive economic zone (EEZ) protection, reconnaissance, communication and interdiction, convoy protection, and minefield laying missions. It also enables forces to independently engage surface vessels, underwater vehicles, submarines and aircraft. The ASW vessel can search, track and destroy enemy submarines in deep waters. Project 1124M ships feature a custom-built hull form to offer superior sea-keeping characteristics and enhanced mission readiness. The stepped superstructure and hull are designed to reduce radar and acoustic signatures. The aft of the vessel features a flight deck, which allows the take-off and landing of a medium-sized helicopter. The anti-submarine ship has a length of 71.2m, beam of 10.3m and hull draft of 3.5m. Full load displacement of the vessel is approximately 1,000t. The ship can be manned by 80 crew members. Project 1124M ASW served as a base platform for two other variants, namely the Project 1124M1 fire support ship and Project 1124M2 Coast Guard ship. The Project 1124M1 fire support ship addresses fire support requirements for ground forces operating in marine environments. Mission capabilities of the variant include the destruction of underwater and single aerial targets, border patrol, and maritime protection. The coast guard ship meets the needs of coast guard agencies. It can perform roles similar to the fire support variant as well as protecting coastal shipping and supporting other marine operations. The forward bow deck of the vessel can be mounted with two artillery weapons, for example, either a 76.2mm AK-176М heavy machine gun and 30mm AK-630M close-in weapon system (CIWS), two 57mm A-220 guns, or two 76.2mm AK-176M guns. It is further installed with a 14.5mm motor thermal protection unit (MTPU) machine gun. Two DTA-53 twin torpedo launchers on board the vessel enable it to destroy deep-water submarines. The vessel can also be armed with RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launchers. The Osa-MA2 surface-to-air missile (SAM) system on the vessel can engage aerial targets, such as aircraft and helicopters. The Project 1124M ASW ship features a hull-mounted MGK-335EM-03 Vesta-K sonar, Pozitiv-МE1.2 radar and Gorizont-25E INS Sigma-E combat management system (CMS). The fire control systems on board the ship include a 5P-10-03E and MR-123-02/3-4 radar control system. It also includes Palma-SU and an SP-520-M electro-optical (EO) system. The active and passive countermeasures systems fitted to the vessel include a TK-25E ship-borne electronic suppression system and four PK-10 decoy systems, respectively. The ship is also installed with a Zmey towed ship-based acoustic torpedo countermeasures system. The anti-submarine warfare ship is powered by a three-shaft combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) propulsion system. It integrates two diesel engines, with a maximum power output of 6,620kW each, and an additional engine with a rated power of 13,970kW. Auxiliary power requirements of the vessel are served by a 900kW electric power system. The maximum speed attained by the corvette is approximately 30k. The ship can achieve a maximum range of 2,500nmi while travelling at an economical speed of 10k. It can endure at sea for a period of ten days.
