This project involves acquiring advanced submarines with enhanced underwater endurance, allowing them to remain submerged for nearly three weeks. The deal includes critical technological support from Germany and aims to foster indigenous capabilities in designing and manufacturing conventional submarines, reducing dependency on foreign suppliers. Negotiations between the Defence Ministry, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), and the selected German partner are set to begin by the end of August 2025, with a target to conclude contract negotiations within six to eight months. |
