The project aims to enhance India's indigenous submarine-building capability and reduce dependence on imports. The German AIP technology allows submarines to stay underwater for up to three weeks. The Defence Ministry selected Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) as its strategic partner for the programme. Negotiations between the Defence Ministry, MDL, and ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) are expected to begin by the end of August 2025, with a six-month negotiation window before final government approval. |
