Description | The Indian Navy operates a fleet of conventional diesel-electric submarines including Kalvari-class, Kilo-class, and German HDW submarines. Many of these are nearing decommissioning, and acquisition programs for new submarines are delayed. The Project 75 (P75) involves building Kalvari-class submarines, with plans to integrate indigenous air-independent propulsion (AIP) technology currently in advanced trials by DRDO. The succeeding Project 75 India (P75(I)) aims to build six AIP-equipped diesel-electric attack submarines under a strategic partnership model, with German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems involved. |
