Project Acacia is a research initiative led by the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre to explore the integration of tokenised assets, including carbon credits, with traditional banking infrastructure. Northern Trust is participating by using its Northern Trust Carbon Ecosystem™ platform to manage digital carbon credits and facilitate simulated delivery-versus-payment settlement with fiat currency, coordinated by Swift's infrastructure. The project aims to support the development of wholesale tokenised asset markets in Australia and demonstrate interoperability between tokenised ecosystems and traditional financial infrastructure.
