Description | Project Acacia is a collaborative research project with the Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre (DFCRC) and industry, examining whether tokenised forms of money and assets could enhance the functioning of Australia's wholesale asset markets. The project explored 20 use cases involving a range of assets, forms of money, and settlement arrangements, including tokenised government bonds, corporate bonds, term deposits, investment funds, and more. It involved the issuance of a wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC) onto external ledgers to understand efficiency and safety issues. The project revealed strong industry interest and highlighted the need for coordination across industry, regulators, and government to realize the benefits of tokenisation in financial markets. |
