Project Agorá Digital Currency Settlement Test

undergoing real-world trials

Project Agorá is a major research initiative led by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) involving seven central banks and over forty private financial institutions. The project explores innovative technologies for tokenizing central bank reserves and commercial bank deposits to enable atomic swaps between different national currencies, aiming to solve challenges in traditional cross-border payments such as delays, high costs, and operational risks. The project is moving beyond simulations to real-world trials with selected currencies and financial institutions.
